Subject and object pronouns

English pronouns let us avoid repeating the same name or noun. Subject pronouns perform the action: I, you, he, she, it, we, and they. They normally come before the verb: She works here. They know my brother.

Object pronouns receive the action or follow a preposition: me, you, him, her, it, us, and them. Compare He calls her with She calls him. The form changes because the person has a different job in the sentence.

Use it for a thing, an animal when its sex is not important, the weather, and the time: It is cold. I like this book. It is very useful. Use they and them for plural people or things.

After a preposition, choose an object pronoun: with me, for him, near her, after us, and from them. Do not say with I or for he.

In ordinary statements, the pattern is subject pronoun + verb + object pronoun: We help them. She knows us. Reading the sentence aloud helps the two forms become automatic.
